종교의 최고의 증거 The Highest Evidence of Religion

 

"종교의 현실성과 효능에 대한 가장 높은 증거는 인간 체험의 사실을 구성하며, 말하자면, 인간의 본래 두려움과 의심이 많고, 자기 보존 본능이 강하며, 사후 생존을 갈망하는 강한 본능을 타고났지만, 자신의 현재와 미래의 가장 깊은 이익을 자신의 신앙에서 신으로 지정한 그 권능과 인격의 유지와 지도로 기꺼이 온전히 맡기려고 한다."

 

“The highest evidence of the reality and efficacy of religion consists in the fact of human experience; namely, that man, naturally fearful and suspicious, innately endowed with a strong instinct of self-preservation and craving survival after death, is willing fully to trust the deepest interests of his present and future to the keeping and direction of that power and person designated by his faith as God.”
